Getting Started

What is it like to homeschool? Ask my 4 and 6 year old daughters--they'll give you the real scoop.  Sometimes I'll write my own commentaries, but mostly these are their words and pictures.  Imperfectly perfect.

Planting Parsley by RTL

First we got parsley seeds for Tu B'Shvat.  Then we planted the seeds in the soil.  Next we watered the parsley seeds.  Finally we put them next to the sunny window so they would grow.  They grew! Now we can see the flower, the roots, the stem and the leaves.  I like to eat the parsley.

Shira and my mom drew this picture and labelled the parts of the plant.

What do you do when it's cold and rainy outside, and you are waiting for the storm of the century in ATL?  Throw the kids in the water, of course!  The girls had a ball writing their sight words in shaving cream on the bathroom walls this afternoon.  The highlight of the day, however, was saying goodnight to RTL.  When I started rubbing her back, she recited the blessing that her father and I give her every Friday night, and then said, "I had so much fun at Sensations with you."  It reminded me that while the teaching is fun (and comfortable) for me, one of the reasons why we decided to homeschool our kids was so that they would have the time to do kid stuff.  I love the lessons, but the "kid stuff" is where the magic happens.

We like going to Sensations.  It is fun to be home schooled because you get to go on lots of field trips and go to Sensations sometimes. My favorite activities at Sensations are the zip line and the bikes.  It is fun to go on the zip line because you get to ride on the torpedo or the Hershey kiss (whichever is up) and then you drop into the ball pit.  I like riding the plasma cars because you twist and turn when you steer.  I can't wait to go back to Sensations very soon!
